Cards Not Chosen and Another Announcement!

These two cards weren't chosen for the Stamping Royalty contest, but that's okay, because they will be forwarded to folks in the military (or their families) to use.  That makes me happy.

Also, I'm hoping you'll come back tomorrow!  I was invited to do a project for a fabulous scrapbook/crafting company and it will go live on their FB page sometime during the day.

I don't have a FB page anymore, but as soon as I get the link, I'll post it here and tell you all about it!

Absent...

December has been extra busy for me this year....

Superman (my husband) finally got a job!  YAY!

But now with his work and school schedule, I have almost ZERO time to myself....

Taking kids here and there....

Helping with homework....

Christmas shopping....

Random errands that I used to send him to do....

The next year and a half will definitely hinder my posting time....

And probably my crafting time....

But I have to do a little crafting to keep sane....

I'll be holding card classes and Stamp Club in 2012 so I'll try to at least post those projects....

If not other random projects here and there....

I wanted to make some vintage-y looking tags to put on our stockings....

Copy Cat Thursday - Brown Glitter

Today's card is copied from Lisa Brown.  This one is so beautiful I don't know if I can give it away.  I mean the photo just does not do it justice.  It looks so rich in person. (I can gush like that because I didn't come up with the idea.  So I'm not really bragging now. Am I?)

I didn't even realize that Stampin' Up! sold brown glitter.  For as many times as I've looked through that catalog, I skimmed right by that fact.  Probably because I'm not a huge glitter fan.  I mean I like it, but I only use it on occasion.  But when I saw Lisa use brown glitter on brown card stock, I was so drawn to it!  And to use chocolate paper and glitter for a Christmas card, was even better.  How creative!  You can see her original card HERE.

I used my favorite-in-the-whole-wide-world snowflake stamp set.  Sadly, it's a long-ago retired Stampin' Up! set which means I will never, ever part with it.

Copy Cat Thursday

Good morning!

Today I thought I'd share something new!  Now, in my perfect world this would be a regular Thursday occurrence.  Sometimes it might be, but sometimes life might get in the way.

I love to browse different blogs to get new ideas for cards, layouts, and other crafts.  I'm much better at imitation than originality so that's what these posts will be about.

Each Thursday on every Thursday that I remember ;), I'll post a project that I've made that was inspired by someone else's project.  I'll just be using what I already have in my stash.  These posts will probably, mostly be cards, but I think I might throw a layout or two or even a home decor project in for fun.

So meet the first Copy Cat Thursday card:

This was inspired by a card by Kristina Werner.  I'm always inspired by her.  You can see her original card HERE.

There are obvious differences between my card and Kristina's, like how her circles have words in them and that she uses letter stickers to complete the greeting, and that the scallops on my card are ginormous compared to the ones on hers, but overall, I think mine has a similar feeling.  On the circles, I used my ever-favorite technique:  Emboss Resist.  It's like magic to me every time!

Getting Crafty with Cookies!

Hello and happy Friday!

It's such a beautiful Autumn day where I live.  How's the weather in your neck of the woods?

I wanted to share a fun how-to video from Stampin' Up! featuring their new Cookie Press.  It looks SO fun.  This would be such a great project to do with your kids.  My kids think they're too big to bake with mom anymore but I may just have to purchase it to use with my future grandkids.  Yes, I like to plan ahead. ;)  Pair your cookie creations with a card, tag or SU! packaging and you have a fabulous Christmas gift for teachers, neighbors or anyone else!

Vintage-y Christmas

I've posted this card once before but I so love how it turned out I thought I'd revisit.  Besides that, it's going to be pushing 100 degrees here today and maybe this Christmas card will make me feel a little cooler!

I know Christmas is over but...

I meant to post this a little bit ago but got sick, then Christmas break was over and it was back to work for me.

A couple of years ago my good friend and fellow deal hunter called me to say she was at the dollar store and found a super steal: A package of 6 cooking utensils for a buck and should she pick up some for me. Uh, yes! In the package was 2 pancake turners, 2 cool wisks, and 2 ladel/strainers. I had planned on using them for neighbor gifts with a clever saying. But that year came and went and I was feeling uncreative so in their plastic packages they stayed. Well, since my husband's job is a little if-y right now and money is a little tight, I decided to pull them out and use them this year.

With the help of my same friend, who is so creative, she helped me come up with a cute and saying to go with them.

I just printed the saying on my computer, cut it into a tag shape and used my scraps to decorate. The little poinsettia embellishment was just made with a small flower punch I've had for years. I punched 2 flowers, adhered them together and stuck a little Stampin' Up! rhinestone gem in the middle. I love those SU! rhinestones. They are the best I've ever used.

And you know what? I got more wow's from my neighbors about these gifts than when I did the "cookie mix in a jar" gift two years ago! Just don't tell them I only spent 20 cents for each of their gifts this year. ;)

Stamp-A-Stack cards? Check!

I had some time Friday during my boys' piano lessons to finish up my collection of cards for my November card class! Hopefully, everyone will like them. I think there's enough variety to satisfy everyone's style. Yeah, I know. There's no Halloween cards. I made those back in August so I'm already ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas to come. Makes me feel like listening to a little Bing Crosby. :)

Off to clean the house now before creating more cards for our school Halloween Carnival Boutique. I'll post those later.

Do you love leftovers?

I didn't love leftovers as a kid. In fact, I pretty much hated them. Tasteless, soggy. Just how my Dad liked them. Yuck.

I have felt pretty much the same way about crafting leftovers. Especially, what to do with all those sheets of stickers that have only 1 or 2 pieces used from them? Well, in an effort to be more financially responsible, I decided to make some cards from my leftover stickers.

For the card on the right, I came across a sheet of Winter/Christmas photo stickers. Don't know how long I've had them, but I'm pretty sure it's been a long time. I just started randomly placing them on the card front, letting them hang off the edges of the card. Then I trimmed around the card front and presto! I have a fun collage-type Christmas card. Just add a pretty ribbon and a snowflake punch out of my favorite green cardstock (Old Olive to be exact) and there you have it!

The card on the left was the same idea but I used Christmas word strips to randomly decorate the card front. I trimmed off the excess, die cut two great snowflakes using my Big Shot and used two big red brads that I've had in my stash for years.

Don't Hate me Because my Cards are Done!

Okay, first off. I need to apologize that my last post was so heavy. Hope I didn't depress anyone too much. I had a really inspiring weekend and I'm starting to feel much better.

I was invited to a friend's house on Saturday for a scrapbooking retreat. I prefer to do my scrapbooking at home because I never know what supplies I'll need so I chose to work on cards instead. Christmas cards to be exact. It was fun to get together with friends, to watch/listen to General Conference and to complete a project. After about 3 hours, all my Christmas cards were finished! They just need to be addressed and sent. One less thing to do in December. :)

What I love about Stamp Club

I love the fact that at Stamp Club, we get to make projects that are a little more involved than Stamp-A-Stack cards. What does more involved mean? Well, it can mean a few things. Either, there's a technique that takes a little longer than we have time for at Stamp-A-Stack, or the products used are a little more expensive (like the striped ribbon, button, and patterned paper, for example), or there are more embellishments to the cards, or we make a 3D item like a gift/candy box.

Here's a peak at the card we'll do at December's Stamp Club. In all it's sparkly, vintage-y goodness.
